Link is the courageous protagonist in the Legend of Zelda
series. He is a young boy, sometimes even a young man (though never older than nineteen). Usually his age is closer to eleven or twelve, but that never stops him from leaving home to chase his destiny. Without fail, he wields a sword in every Legend of Zelda game. Often times he begins his adventures without a sword, and discovers a strong aptitude for swordplay as the game progresses. More often than not he is armed with the magnificent Master Sword, a sacred blade with the power to cast out darkness.

When Link made his 1986 debut in The Legend of Zelda, he shattered the video game world. The Legend of Zelda combined action and adventure with elements from RPG's and puzzle games. This made Link, and the Legend of Zelda series, a smash hit. Since then, Link has become a video game icon, as he is still one of the most popular protagonists in the industry today. He's starred in almost a dozen Legend of Zelda masterpieces, as well as a number of other games. The Super Smash Bros. series, Soul Caliber II, and Super Mario RPG are only a few of the several cameo appearances classic Link has made in the Nintendo world. Classic Link has cultivated a legacy over the years, and a lot of fans felt the emergence of Toon Link was a betrayal to that legacy.
